‘a beautifully written new play, richly poetic in its lyrical language, balancing light humour with thrilling narrative.’

 Edinburgh Guide

‘When disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton.’

Sir Raymond Priestley / Apsley Cherry-Garrard

Based on the legendary Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914, Shackleton and His Stowaway by Andy Dickinson, follows the misfortunes of an eighteen-year-old stowaway who sneaks aboard Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance.

Initially, the Stowaway is in awe of Shackleton but he becomes disillusioned when Endurance gets trapped in the polar ice pack. There she eventually breaks up and sinks, leaving the crew adrift on the ice, hundreds of miles from civilisation.

This final version of Shackleton and His Stowaway was first performed at Cervantes Theatre, London in August 2019.
